We had sun shine all day today, the first time in weeks, it seems. In spite of the sun, it was cold and all the birds were fluffed up to keep warm. This little Red-breasted Muthatch didn't seem to mind the cold at all.
@jennywren thanks jen! although it would be pretty to have feeders in the gardens, we put seed on the railing of the deck and they come to that. Feeders in the gardens would be quite a distance away from the windows. My goal is to have a camera where it doesn't make as much of a difference how close the birds are! :)
With a "buffet" like this one, he's not minding the cold at all. Beautiful catch. These gorgeous photos of your birds are a great reminder of what's all around us, Anne. We just don't always notice.
You have so many different birds that I now feel mine are boring. I've not seen this bird. He is really cute, love the colors and the close-up. You can see right in his eye and I can tell he's thinking.
You would inspire me to build a bird feeder except my ratter cat needs to be free to keep the field rats away from the house and he occasionally catches a bird already.
I love your bird close ups and facts about them. You are inspiring me to learn more about my own local birds. I did not have a chance to use the word triscadecaphobia (which I had to look up - what a fun word!) in Scrabble, and Steve beat me by 5 points. It was a really fun night and it was good for us to get back to an old tradition.
the weather's been a bitch, hasn't it? and we will have yo-yo temperatures this week so that's going to be 'exciting'. i love how the details of this muthatch show. great shot, anne.
