This Gold Standard variety is one of the Hostas that did quite well during the drought this summer. The slug population was quite minimal throughout the gardens this summer but some still managed to chomp here and there ... i hope they got eaten by the birds ... lol
@summerfield@cmuir1963 thanks ladies! vikki, they're made of clay. cindy, i bought them one year in the fall and put them away for the winter before putting them in the garden --- took me two years to find them again so i'm extra happy to have them!
They still look beautiful. Some of mine suffered horribly this year and are mostly shriveled and brown. Love that perfectly chewed line down the middle!

I have this one too but mine suffered a bit of sun damage. @lyno I discovered a way to deter slugs, it might help you - if you have access to some ash from a wood fire (I saved them up during the winter) sprinkle them around the base of each Hosta. Slugs won't cross that line, the ashes would kill them!
