My granddaughter spied this little guy/gal just outside the kitchen window. I like the soft grey feathers. We don't see them regularly at the Railing Diner, where the menu consists almost solely of sunflower seeds. Here's some info from the Cornell Lad of Ornithology if you're interested:
"Dark-eyed Juncos are primarily seed-eaters, with seeds of chickweed, buckwheat, lamb’s quarters, sorrel, and the like making up about 75% of their year-round diet. At feeders they seem to prefer millet over sunflower seeds. During the breeding season, Dark-eyed Juncos also eat insects including beetles, moths, butterflies, caterpillars, ants, wasps, and flies."
Love these little guys - you're really finding some terrific opportunities with the birds these days. The settings have been ideal and your focus is wonderful.
