Red Spotted Newt by sunnygreenwood

Red Spotted Newt

This is a red eft, the young terrestrial stage of the red-spotted newt also known as an eastern newt. Other than some birds off in the distance, it's the only critter we saw on our hike. Cool to see close up if you have a moment.

What a neat looking little guy - almost looks like one of those jelled toys - super find. Never seen one close up like this.

Great close-up. It looks so rubbery, at first I thought it was fake. What's the white powdery looking stuff on its head and back?

Very cool shot. S/he almost looks translucent. Love the bits of sand...looks like this little newt has had a busy day.

This must decidedly be akin to a gekko! They really are cute! And to be called an "elf"...too adorable!
