There is a huge range of geographic variation in the Dark-eyed Junco. Around here, we see the slate-coloured version. The female has a bit of brown throughout. We had a pair of them regularly in the fall but now we only see them sporadically. They move quickly, usually on the ground, and I don't have many pics of them. How lucky that when I finally caught one off the ground, that none of those million branches blocked the view!
Beautiful shot. We call them snow birds since it they are with us during the winter. They usually show up about 2 days before the 1st snow. This year they were here way before that snow.
