Since I was in town today, I thought I´d take a few photographs of the city but the weather was just terrible; greyness, wind and rain. So I took my car and got away as fast as I could but couldn´t get away from the rain, still it rains. I´m beginning to doubt my sanity, did I lose couple of months of my life & slept through summer, is it fall already? What kind of spring is this, If it looks and feels just like fall, does it make it so in reality?
Since this was pretty much the only picture I took today, I decided to concentrate today on learning more about processing and just played a bit with different settings. I tried to find this distant memory like image but once again I really can´t tell anymore is it too bright, too unfocused etc. I´m hoping you will tell me. Honestly.
I love B & W and "honestly" it looks like an old-time photo from the '30-'40's which is really great! I also love this because of how it is processed! I am sorry you couldn't get away from the rain...but I checked and you should have a SUNNY day on Sunday...:):) hang in there girl!
@nanderson Thank you so much Nancy for your comment. Yes it looks kind of like old photo and actually it´s more like a old photo than a memory. Too much processing will make me blind to my own work. Sunny on sunday, oh yes I think I can wait till sunday :) Thank you for checking it out for me :)
It definitely has a retro feel, slightly faded, lacking the punchiness of a more recent picture. So in that respect it would work very well as a distant memory - one that was sharp near the time it happened but which has faded over time. Also there's a gate there blocking our way - possibly a memory which is difficult to access? I think it works well, great job.
I think you did a great job getting that retro feel. If you had said "This is a photo from my great grandmother's photo album that I scanned" I'd believe you!
Yes - as people have said this has a vintage feel to it. I think you succeeded here - it looks like a photo from childhood, maybe of a place that doesn't exist any more.
I agree with everyone else. It works well. Hope your spring returns to normal soon and you get some lovely sunny weather. At this end of the world it's unusually warm for this time of the year.
"Honestly" we are telling you that we love it! You are responding to your surroundings, bleak as they are, that makes you a true artist. It will get better, just hang on in there.. love & hugs
Very cool processing, old photo indeed. I like how the shot creates a strong atmosphere (although not very pleasant...). Often people are trying too hard to look for cool subjects (I'm guilty), focusing merely on the visual side. But the feeling has to be there too... and I think this picture delivers the feeling you had when shooting this. Hope I made sense :)
@janim You make a lot of sense Jani and thank you! I´m glad you sensed the atmosphere here, I wasn´t sure it would translate. It´s the gate to cemetary, so it´s a dark place in reality as it is in my mind too. I think the atmosphere is everything and most of all I want to learn how to create a right atmosphere in my photos. How to transfer the right mood, I most definitely need procesessing to be able to do that. So gotta learn the tricks :)
Yes I like this, I think you achieved the distant memory idea quite well, a fav for effort and lets hope the rotten weathe gets better soon, heck it's mid summer in 2 months time!
We get that same weather here, funny and sunny soon:)
