@kali66 Thank you for your comment. I don´t like the composition: how the other hand is cut and I would have hoped to have the whole elbow on frame too. Also the light that was directed to lit that iron also lits the hand on this frame, don´t like that. I however liked the expression even thou it´s far too happy for ironing and the body pose, so those were the reasons I choce this one regardless of those details that bothered me.
Hahaha you did it :) I think this is really cool. OK the cropped hand is something to improve but the elbow doesn't matter at all. The expression to me is like she shows a happy face but inside she's fuming - she really squeezes the handle on that iron very hard... well done! fav
@janim Ha haa yes I did, so now I´m waiting to see you ironing ;-) Kiitos, kyl kannatti kaivaa Halloween puku kaapista tollasta palautetta varten :) I do like your interpretation of the expression....however in reality, systeri varmaan puristaa tota kahvaa siks, et sillä on muutama pyykkipoika selässä kiinni, jotta saatiin toi mun mekko istuun kunnolla tosta yläosasta (mä nyt vaan täytän sen paremmin, if you know what I mean) mut ei se vieläkään tarpeeks tiukka oo ja sekin mua tässä närppii.
i think this is quite lovely... i do see what you mean about the light on the hand, but i don't really feel this detracts... the expression makes me think that she's daydreaming whilst doing the housework... i've always wondered what the ordinary person's hopes and dreams must be when life is pure drudgery 24/7...
I like the concept and the scene and processing very much. She does look as if she's daydreaming in order to take her mind off the drudgery of the work.
I like the capture, some of the things you mention, like the elbow I didn't notice until I ready your comment. I think the lighting, processing is good for what I think you are trying to convey of the activity. But all the things you mention, I am sure you will be looking for next time you set something like this up. The one thing we can always be thankful for when shooting something we don't really love is that we learn from our exercise!
@sansjuan Thank you Nita for your comment, yes you´re right, I do learn a lot out of these kind of shots and that´s why I need to post them even thou I´m not completely happy with them
@northy Thank you Northy for your comment. Yes it looks like dreamy face to me too and that is a interesting thought, what did they dream about. I suspect she´d be dreaming of love even thou it is said that the romantic love is not that old concept; marriage was more like a profession to women and the reasons to get married were more connected to other reasons than to personal emotions but I still believe the chemistry has always been there, people have always been attracted to certain somebody. I think that even thou the greatest worry for women were perhaps to find a good marriage in a reasonable sense, I believe they could still dream about getting married with somebody they would actually like.
What a philosophical line of posts! Let me just add that I like this picture very much, in spite of all the things that troubles you...but that just means that you are pushing yourself to reach a personal goal and that is good. Regarding the hand that holds the iron: in PSE (and in PS, I'm sure) you can selectively increase or decrease highlights and shadows, or use the "burn" tool to darken highlights, which could be used to reduce the exposure of the hand and increase the exposure of the iron...just a thought.
@ericdibosco Thank you Eric for your comment & thank you for the tip, that I could definitely have used here! The problem is that I don´t have PS, I use GIMP which has pretty much the same abilities as PS but I don´t think it has this tool....I have to check it out! Yes you´re right, I am pushing myself harder but at the same time I feel as I´m not getting anywhere with my photagraphy...but at least I´m constantly learning, so maybe someday I´ll be able to take the kind of pics I visualize in my mind.
I am drawn to the hand holding the iron, in some critiques you may say it is too bright and should be darkened down, but I actually like this as it takes your eye straight to what she's doing thus helping tell the story of the image
Well done, you! This is wonderfully conceived and executed. I would not have noticed any of the things that bothered you, and really don't think they matter. The feeling is great - very intriguing. It tells a story and leaves me wanting to know more.
