El Jem by susale

El Jem

El Jem is the second largest and the best preserved amphitheater in the world - the largest of course being the Colosseum in Rome. I really liked the Place but my pics don´t do it any justice.
Very cool, love it in b&w

It's beautiful! It looks great in B&W.

I can imagine it would be hard to capture something of that magnitude. I think you did it justice - highlighting the massive stone architecture.
April 1st, 2015
You have brought out the massive structure. It may need a little more contrast but I think you've done really well

Great shadows and light

Great shot.

Looks like the sun was extremely bright, but works well in B&W. As far as I know, it is also one of the best preserved amphi's in the world.
April 1st, 2015

@ericdibosco Yes I believe you are right, it is the best preverved amphi´s. @ericdibosco @swilde I actually went for light contrast on purpose, it kind of felt pleasing to my eyes at that time. I will upload something with morw contrast of this place today. Thank you for your comments.

@nanderson Oh yes it was such adventure! We hired a taxi to take us there and to town of Monastir, it was quite a trip!

@annied Oh yes, I believe I will have to see the movie again just to see will I recognise the place! It was the same with the Cruise in Nile, after I took it, I had to see the movie Death in the Nile that what filmed in Karnak temple

Great shot, love your pov and the b&w
April 1st, 2015
Do they keep some of the object from the movie. Did you smell blood?
April 1st, 2015
Beautiful capture. According to Wikipedia the scenes of Rome and the Roman Colosseum were shot in Fort Ricasoli in Malta; I checked it out because I was sure a big part of The Gladiator were filmed in Malta.

@sangwann Yes you are quite right, I did google it. Thank you for correcting me, I never doubted the info I got about the movie been filmed there cos well it sounded believable. It seams that El Jem was an inspiration for the Gladiator arena though. I believe as a fact that parts of the Star Wars movie have been filmed in Tunisia though :)

@yaorenliu Luckily there were no lions there anymore.....we did visit those cages......
April 1st, 2015
@tstb I was on Holiday. I am back home now, just sharing the pics here:)

I have a photo taken outside this colosseum about 35 years ago! Tunisia is such a wonderful country isn't it. I like the b&w processing here, really accentuates the architecture.
April 1st, 2015
@paulaw Yes it is, I am still hoping to get back next year but we´ll just have to see how the things are a year from now, right now I don´t feel safe to travel there.
April 1st, 2015
It's such a sad situation isn't it, I hope things don't escalate.
April 1st, 2015
@paulaw Yeah me too but I don´t think it will be completely safe to travel in to arabic countries in any near future but then again I guess it can happen in any country now so one just isn´t safe anywhere :(
April 1st, 2015
