This is the 2nd butterfly - a Gray Hairstreak - that I found yesterday. This one was so cool because if you notice on the back of his wings, he has 2 'tails'. Those 'tails' move!! When I first started shooting this guy, I would get confused in my lens which end was which :) I'm guessing that's the point; that this is some sort of protection mechanism. Anyway, he/she has that same fairy like face. They are very small.
Stunning capture, Tara ... such beautiful colors and gorgeous pov! Beautiful butterfly ... ours are disappearing around here now. That time of year, I guess.
How gorgeous. It's really interesting to see the little tails and you can see how nature works to protect it from predators. Love the focus and the colours xx
@karenann Thank you Karen! Yes, ours will be disappearing soon, I was just lamenting that there won't be anymore pretty bugs to photograph for awhile . . .
@psychographer Thanks Lisa. I had never seen anything like it either. It was so interesting to watch those tail thingy's move . . . at first I didn't know which end was which :)
This is gorgeous! I love the pink flower it is on. I was told that about the "Tails"...to scare off predators....I love to watch them rub their wings back and forth together...weird.
