My boy, the firefighter by teodw

My boy, the firefighter

Bunyip CFA held a memorial service at the local park. This is my eldest son, hand on the hip, chatting to his fellow brigade members. He loves being a member of this awesome organisation. Just last week he went to Orbost and into NSW to fight a large bushfire. Then he comes home and his mummy tells him to tidy his room! It's an awkward age being 21. Half man, half boy!
It's no doubt hard for mums with boys this age too - need to let go and at the same time don't want to.
Such a rewarding career for him. Great candid capture.

I admire these men and women who put their lives on the line to save others. There is a photographic exhibition on in Sydney at the moment showing photos of the volunteers who fought the bad bush fires here back in September. One photo was a volunteer who joined up when she was 12 and it said she fought her first big bush fire at the age of 16.

Wonderful shot, and story Terrie. I know how you feel. I'm now an empty nester, but my kids all stayed around until their mid to late twenties. Never minded it at all, becasue as I am now away from them I rarely get to see them. Cherish it, but keep telling him to clean his room, haha.

Great shot - and bad day today for CFA across the state - break out near our place but not as bad (fingers crossed ) as down on the outskirts of Melbourne.
