I hope this image portrays some rules of composition: the crack in the pavement creates a leading line to the dark mural area, which counter balances the white portion of the wall. The guy wandering is in the intersection of the Thirds division lines and he wanders towards the large garbage bin which in turn draws the eye towards it too, where it's commonness and ugliness makes you ready to leave the image.
Well illustrated compositional elements with some lovely light and texture too. Lovely narrative. The commonness and ugliness to which you refer gave cause for me to smile when I read the word 'finery'
The white picket fence in the mural drew my eyes immediately. Then the puffy clouds in the mural and how they matched the clouds in the sky. Then the white wall drew my eye and I noticed the man. All this happened in an instant of course but that is how my eye traveled. To be honest I didn’t notice the garbage can until I read your narrative. In fairness though, I’m viewing your image on my phone while riding a train. I probably would have seen it on my computer. A striking and well composed image.
Well done on all points of composition! The great thing about this shot is that they all work and yet your eye is not aware of them, they just travel around the picture because there is so much to see.
