Going Down! by timerskine

Going Down!

A huge crowd turned out to watch the implosion of the former headquarters of Dominion Energy in downtown Richmond, Virginia. It took about 10 seconds from the time of the first explosion to the last of the debris to settle. The dust, however, lingered for quite a while.
Amazing capture, Tim! How did you know when it was going to implode? Could you hear the explosions? Great vantage point, also!

@thewatersphotos Implosions are a series of precisely timed explosions in the structure. This causes one side to collapse first, causing the building to fall where they want it to. The whole thing takes close to 10 seconds from first detonation to final collapse. I started shooting probably 2-3 seconds in. I was far enough away that I had to go off of seeing the dust and smoke from the first few explosions to as my cue to start shooting. The vantage point was shared with several thousand of my closest friends...but I got there about an hour and a half early so I got a great seat. I posted a series of shots on my FB page at https://www.facebook.com/tim.erskine.90/posts/10216620320132699
