Tappahannock Oak by timerskine

Tappahannock Oak

The Missus and I were out meandering through the area northeast of where we live when we saw this big, beautiful oak, just outside the town of Tappahannock, Virginia. I knew instantly that this was my tree. I will be back to visit it frequently to photograph it during different seasons, weather and light.
Wow, stunning large tree.It makes the red car so small.

Fabulous that you could get the whole tree in your shot. I love its shadow too.

@dutchothotmailcom @tinley23 @amyk @annepann @monikozi Thank you all for the comments! I have lived in Virginia for 3.5 years and my job (I've recently retired) required me to drive all over the state. I was always looking for a stately tree to shoot since there was one about an hour from my house in Ohio. I was able to shoot it in many seasons from more or less the same spot. Like I said in the caption, I knew the instant I saw it that this was it. Remarkably, there is a cut-through on this divided highway that is big enough to pull into and park relatively* safely. It allows me to stand right where I need to get this shot.

*I say relatively because as a career paramedic, I've seen the results of drunk and, increasingly, distracted drivers. So while I'll be getting repeat shots, I'm regrettably not going to be hanging out there admiring it.

I really wish you a happy, enjoyable and relaxing retirement. And i really wish you will have the chance to enjoy the tree as well, as much as possible.
