Katherine Undertook is a formalized way of saying 'katydid' which is what this critter is.
We have a screened in back porch that we keep open so that the dogs have some place to shake off in bad weather that isn't inside the house. We get the occasional bird inside, but they generally find their way back out without assistance. But bugs are generally trapped, and will just struggle against the screens. So I keep a critter rescue kit out there. It's a glass (the top of which you see here) and a stiff piece of paper large enough to cover the opening of the glass. I will place the glass over the trapped bug, slide the paper between the glass and the screen, then carry it outside to be released.
This katydid was nice enough to pose for me on the rim of the glass before flying off.
