The Missus and I ventured 2.5 hours up the road to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond (our home for 5 years before moving to Virginia Beach) to see the Ansel Adams "Compositions in Nature" exhibit (highly recommended, BTW).
After seeing the exhibit we grabbed a 'to go' lunch from one of our favorite spots and headed to Dutch Gap Conservation Area, a favorite of ours for getting out into nature. As we ate my eye was drawn across the James River to a gleaming white sycamore tree in the midst of oaks and evergreens. Having been inspired by Ansel Adams' work I realized it would make a good B&W shot. It's not very Adams-like as he would have taken the picture during the golden or blue hours, but I didn't have the luxury of hanging out that long.
