End of the Eclipse

Missed the Blood Moon, but woke up at 4 am and put a jacket on and went out to catch the end of the eclipse. Wanted detail so spot metered at -1.
Still made a mistake for somehow the ISO was at 800 and therefore lots of background noise. Always a judgment call on brightness vs. detail. I went with max detail. Placed lower right since moon was beginning to set and lower in the sky.
hmmmmm I dont see the noise.....do you shoot RAW Tom? I find a lot of the noise can be taken out in post.

I do shoot raw and jpg. When I tried to remove noise in lightroom lost detail. So went to photoshop elements 8 selected background and adjusted levels darker. not happy since if would have shot at ISO 100
would have been better.

I think you did a great job. At ISO 100, you probably wouldn't have enough light and this image would not have turned out at all.

It's good!

@blueberry1222 Thanks Krista, the shots afterward with the tree branches dropped ISO 400 and less noise. Next time I will use a tripod and drop down to 200 or 100. If in the right spot maybe long exposure with ND filter!!

It's a terrific shot. Interesting to read your comments and those of others on the process.

I've just looked at Alexis Birkill's shot of the eclipse. He used an ISO of 3200 - if you haven't seen it you might be interested in his technical details: http://365project.org/abirkill/365/2014-04-15

He actually used an ISO of 6400... but I think your shot works brilliantly Tom.

@vignouse Thank you Richard I am not into post processing. Want it in camera as close as possible although I just downloaded topaz 3.2 which has a lot of 1 click presets. That is more my speed.
