Wing Beats

The mergansers took off with an abrupt explosion of wing beats, as if by a magical or
prearranged single...Not my best capture, but
they were far off and I was using lens at 400 mm plus an 1.4 extender..this has been cropped, oh yes indeed. just sharing not that good of a photo

I can hear them! Your capture effectively depicts the movement in a way that inmplies sound.
(Funny that you are posing images that remind me of of mine -- I posted a photo of birds flapping around a steeple).
