Gretel

It seems to be my theme of the last couple of days - "Better viewed on black" :)

Someone on our street have this almost broken sculpture standing in the bushes on their loan. It always makes me think of the classic German fairy tale, and the witch, and the gingerbread house, and the children who got lost in the wood. And I almost hear the squeaky creepy voice saying "Knusper, Knusper, Knäuschen. Wer knusper an meinem Häuschen?" (Or, as the scary witch here in the fairy tale garden in the middle of Swabia says "Knusper, Knusper Knäusle. Wer knuspert an meinem Häusle?)

As always, I will be happy to read your comments and critique, so stop by! :)
Yes that is very reminiscent of the story of Hansel and Gretel. Love the clear focus surrounded by the softer focus of the foliage

I really like the processing.

I like the detail you've gotten of this lovely statue, the tones, and the surrounding brambles. An arresting shot. Fav

Beautiful capture. Love the details and the tones...and, it is even more amazing when viewed on black.

I prefer to view this on a white background as you the image frame is then defined, my personal preference is that if the image has a black edges then it needs a pencil thin boarder to define the picture space when viewed on black.

Interesting capture. Really like the tones.

Pretty tones and textures.

Better on white!

Well she is very beautiful

Very unique subject matter. I like it. :)

Thank you very much for viewing and commenting! I found her on one of my "ventures" to explore the street at the very beginning of 365, and finally "utilised" her as other shots today involved uninspiring playground (while kids were endangering themselves climbing icy structures unattended) and some kind of weird but not impressive tree seeds.

@bob65 Bob, I see what you mean about the black vs. white background - thanks for the ideas.

Beautiful shot, really stands out on black.

A beautiful sculpture. I hope the witch doesn't catch her.

Love the shot and the description. I remember my Oma telling me that story in German!
February 9th, 2015
Lovely shot. A little eeriness and neglectfulness comes right thru.

Thanks, Susan, Babs, Barbara and Montez! I am glad it looks eery and neglected. It is even eerier in the real life, as I actually walked onto their property to see her better, and figured she has a couple of huge holes in the middle of her scull :) Didn't go with the fairy tale though :)
