On the way home from school today. There is one thing that I will definitely miss when the time will come to move back to the US - it's the size of the world the kids live in. Even in the nice town like ours in the US, most of the things are done by car, which shrinks kids' world to "stations" like school, store, library, home, etc.... Here, everything seems to be connected as it is a part of one big whole. On the way from school, we can stop at the bakery and the library, read all the ad posters and see what's going on in town, see friends going about their day etc.... So, everyday, their world is big and full of all kinds of events, people and exciting things. I will definitely miss it!
What an amazing capture and memories you will take with you as they continue to grow up. I love the story you told and the story in your image as well. :)
So Vera, I love this very sweet shot, however your text is such a perfect accompaniment to it that it resonates so much with me... I completely understand (I grew up in Europe) and I whole-heartedly agree, and I've never heard it described the way you just did - "stations"... that's exactly what they are here in the US! Little stations not connected to one another. I'm not sure when you're moving but yes, do enjoy it now! It's a very precious whole connected experience!
I live in New York City, and I think it might be the only place in the U.S. where the "stations" thing- so well put!- is not true. It is expensive to live here, even for tiny living spaces, but I love raising my daughter here so far, in that she's constantly involved with the world, whether we're walking or taking the subway- there's so much actual life going around her, and she's usually so fascinated by it. I don't know if we'll have to move eventually, because of the expense and school systems, etc., but I hate the idea of going back to a permanent commuter lifestyle.
