Besides the size difference, do you want to know a fun way to tell a Broad leaf Maple leaf from a VineMaple leaf? You spell out the word M.A.P.L.E. or B.R.O.A.D. on each of the points...and V.I.N.E.M.A.P.L.E. You have to count the points that have a main vein going from the stem. In high school, I was an Outdoor School counselor and I taught Plants...this was always one of the fun things I was able to pass on. And how many of you just now counted the points to see if I am correct? : )
As I said...a piece of useless trivia...just how many times will it ever be needed to know the difference? It was just fun for me to pass it on the the 6th graders at Outdoor School to show them how to be observant. Now the difference between poison Oak and Oak...well, that would be important to know : )
Learned something new today! Gorgeous colors in your shot! I've never seen autumn maple leaves except for when I was in Japan a few years ago. They're beautiful. 8)
I assume the vine maple is a smaller tree by the leaf.
