Today is my husband's LAST day of work! He has been a meat cutter most of his life. First working hauling hay at a meat company across the street from him in high school. He then went to work there part time planning on going to college to become an electrician. But plans changed when we got married and he went to work full time. He worked there for 10 years and then decided that minimum wage would not support us and so he got a union meat cutting job, eventually becoming the manager of the department at WINCO. Two years ago, after 28 years, the hard cold work inside the meat room got to be too much for him and he let it go and became the store secretary. He held on to the long underwear just in case...but last week, as his retirement grew closer, he tossed them out. He says he will never wear a white shirt and black pants again.
I hope your husband enjoys RETIREMENT. My husband wears a suit and white shirt 6 days a week--but he is not in a cold meat room, so no long underwear for him ; ) Love the shot.
This is so cute Vicki! What a great way to commemorate the day. I agree with your hubby...on the day I retire, I will throw out my scrubs and never wear them again (even though they are pretty comfy)!
Well he doesn't need to (wear those clothes any more). All good wishes for his retirement and I hope he has as much fun and enjoyment as my husband has and has been having! A great idea for a shot! Is it my imagination or do those clothes look kinda sad?!!
@quietpurplehaze Sad as in well worn? YES! the last couple of years, he refused to get new clothes! saying he wasn't going to be needing them much longer. or SAD as in sad they won't be worn? that too!!! : )
Wonderful capture to celebrate your husband's retirement. I hope we get to enjoy it as much as Jeff and I are. Be prepared to coupe with some "blues"... The first few months it was really difficult for Jeff, and I had to be patient and understanding, using some psychology.
Congrats to you husband and you all. Do he know what to do with all the free time he get know. ? We say you will fall into a black hole and it`s a bit of true in it. It have takes me more then a year to get use to it.
Oh many congratulations to your husband for completing a long & hard working career, he deserves his quieter life!! Big adaption to a slower life style so I hope he has hobbies!!!! Most of all both of you enjoy it. Love the work clothes on the line for the last time!
Congratulations to your husband, and you! What a great feeling it must be! I hope he didn't throw out the long underwear. They come in handy:) Great shot, Vicki!
Thanks for the story Vicki. I spent some of my working days close to the meat room, but never as close as your husband. Appreciate your sharing. Best of things in the future for you both.
