The Essence of Christmas
Every since my kids were born, we have always had a birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus on Christmas.
I know that most of the photos I have posted this month are photos of the surface features of Christmas, all of the things that surround the holiday. But for me, these things are only the outside, they are the chocolate on the bonbon. What matters most to me is what is on the inside, what is the core of our celebration...WHO is the core, actually. It sometimes is hard not to get focused on the surface aspects of the holiday season, the check off list, the busyness, the buying, the decorating, baking, wrapping, parties and other activities. Doesn't it seem strange that we are celebrating the birth of Jesus, with songs of a white Christmas, sleigh bells, trees covered with ornaments in homes filled with special decorations, when He was born in a place that does not have piles of snow, no sleighs, or even the simplest of decorations? How did Christmas become so Northern based in the world’s viewpoint? Whatever the reason, I want to make sure that the true essence of Christmas is evident in my celebration.
Love this. True words. We sang Happy Birthday today, too...only with monkey bread. Love how you wrote Jesus with candy canes. Great message and shot, Vicki!!!
