I struggled for so long to select today's photo. My mildly eccentric good friend John Wynn popped round for a cuppa after work. It seems like every couple of months I do a shoot with Mr Wynn, and it was December since the last so it was time for another.
The struggle was selecting one from the ten or so I liked, and I finally narrowed it down to two and still deliberated for a while (you can see the other photo on my Flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/vikdaddy/). Then I decided to try them in colour (as a default I went for monochrome), and I liked them almost equally. I settled for black and white in the end because I feel as if you can see more of John's character in mono, and the lighting suits itself to it too. The lighting was created by simply tilting my flash towards my left, with it bouncing off a white wall.
I went to my old workplace today to pick up something I'd left behind. It's funny how a place can seem so different yet the same in such a short space of time. It's probably because I've got so used to my new surroundings already. Going back to my old stomping ground made me realise that I'm glad I left.

i love the intensity and grittyness of this, and the hardness of the light just works. the little bit of eye shine on the shadow side is just enough too. really nicely done. you have a very diverse portfolio vikd! a fav.
