oh deer! by wiesnerbeth

oh deer!

My day began and ended with deer. This morning at 6:15 I saw six of them -- three yearlings and three does -- standing on the side of the road after I dropped Jack off at the bus stop. Then, when I was leaving work tonight at 6:55, I saw a young buck in the woods in front of the school. Two great opportunities . . . no photo. So, I'm posting a photo of this fawn, that I took a year and a half ago. He? was curled up in the grass in front of the school one morning and caused a lot of excitement as the kids were lining up to go in. She? laid in the clover, just feet away from the fence. I'd like to think that this little fawn was one of the deer I saw today . . . all grown up.
This is so sweet!

So precious! Looks like an illustration from an old style Golden Book.

So adorable! Our morning started with deer too... Tillie chased five of them and then I had to freak out, yell and scream and Tillie came back. The deer all scattered I felt so bad! We went to a nature class and learned that baby deer don't smell and so the mom will go away from it to eat so that predators don't get it! I bet she put this little guy in a safe place (school) and was watching him from close by! What a fun memory!

@glassjennifer That's what we found out too! Some of the 5th graders noticed him when they were lining up in the morning. He never moved the whole time and the kids were all flipped out and excited. It made morning bus duty so much more interesting!
