Our last stop on the Bay City Garden Tour was this wonderful garden built on a city lot where a house had burned down. The husband and wife here were growing the most unusual plants (for the Erie climate) -- angel's trumpets, figs, passionflowers, two types of corn (one for eating, one for making masa), castor bean plant, Japanese lanterns. He also showed us a praying mantis egg sac. He gave my mom, Vicki, Jennifer, and I clippings of passionflower vines and some of these seedpods from love-in-a-mist. My sister told him we were never going to leave. Now fingers crossed that my black thumbs will be able to actually grow these!
@margonaut Aren't they fun?! I hope mine grow. I wish I'd taken a picture of the whole garden -- it was pretty wild. I think I'm going to enter this photo in my county's fair.
