my dad’s old barn + farm flowers

My parents used to own this barn, but sold it and the house and land about 12 years ago. When we would come out on weekends and holidays my mom, sister, sisters-in-law, and I, would always walk around the meadow and take a hayride down to the creek, stopping along the way to pick wildflowers. Back at the house we’d put them in mason jars and line them up on the windowsill. We stopped by today after antique shopping in Findlay Lake.
Wow--looks like a wonderful old barn! Pretty flowers.

How nice that you can still visit it! My grandparents lived on a farm outside Paducah which was the setting of many wonderful childhood memories for me (including hay-baling days). But the person who owns it now erected a huge fancy gate. My sister and I knew the back way in though, and ventured out there a couple of years ago. Sadly, we couldn't even see the house or barn anymore. They may have been torn down.

@margonaut oh no! My parents bought the farm at an auction and the current owner is related to the family that owned it before my parents bought it. It was a bittersweet trip for us — one of my brothers has always been sorry that he couldn’t buy it when my dad was ready to sell. The owner invited us to come in the house — they had put in a brand new kitchen but it was a total shambles with junk piled up in every conceivable space. I wish we hadn’t gone in and could remember it the way it was.

@wiesnerbeth exactly why I've never been in my parents' house since we sold it. Subsequent owners have invited me, but I want to remember it the way it was. Shag carpet and all!
