One minute you’re happily knitting along while watching “The Phantom Menace” and then this pops out of your ball of yarn. (Just got the irony of that sentence.)

ha ha! Happens to me frequently. The only way I can knit (successfully) is with a loom. I've churned out some hats in the past.
