Vernal Pool

I walked my regular trail backwards and got to see it in a whole new way. The standing water you see at the bottom of the frame is a vernal pool; a temporary body of water caused by melting snow. In a few more weeks when the weather warms a bit it will be filled with the sounds of spring peepers, one of the first signs of spring in North Eastern Ohio. They use this habitat to mate. You can enjoy a chorus of peepers here. https://youtu.be/UwVEI5M-948 most importantly I got to see an owl today ( that pic didn't come out so well)
