Several years ago, when our street lost many of our trees to Dutch Elm Disease, I was annoyed when the city planted ginkgo trees as replacements. We got a ginkgo in our yard and I was extra disappointed. 😕
But then the Fall came. I found this perfect explanation online of how I feel now: "Each autumn, foliage-starved urbanites are treated to a spectacle of color as the fan-shaped leaves of the ginkgo trees lining their streets turn a brilliant shade of gold." Thank goodness they planted the male version so we don't have stinky berries rotting all season. 😄
