Neither Rain, Nor Snow ... (Nor Hurricanes, Tornado's, or Earthquakes) are Going to Budge THIS Deck When it's Finished!

Rebuild a deck? No problemo! (ahahahaha!)

I didn't know about the trenches to hold "those things called sauna tubes"... ...and refilling said trenches with dirt & cement... ...and raising and leveling it all so we don't need a rail around the deck... ...but we will need a containing wall around the garden... ..."What Garden?" you ask... ..."The one that will need replacing in this never-ending quest to make improvements!"

I sure hope our kids continue to love this place because it now contains their inheritance!

(And all kidding aside, we have the most amazing builder who is awesome and exacting. We began with what we thought was "a little wood rot" that unearthed more problems. He worked inside during the winter, putting in a new laundry room, bathroom & dining room & now we'll have a new deck... He thinks we've adopted him, and he calls me "Mom"... (seriously!) (We couldn't be happier!)
Very cool :)

@aglennc You asked me to let you know when there was an update... and already today it's level & ready to pour cement into the sauna tubes tomorrow... "Progress"!

What a great story, photos (and title!) I sure hope your kids appreciate what you guys are doing to their future home away from home. Haha! This is going to be beautiful. And a new dining room, bathroom, laundry room. You planning to move there full time or something?

Wow...that's some undertaking.

Yep, this is a really amazing under-taking!! Seriously, that deck is not going anywhere!! I think I saw your contractor up to his armpits in one of the holes! Also, I love the purple color, but is the upper left side a lighter shade of blue? Looking good so far! ;-)

The way of building houses is so different from ours. Great to see yours.

@panthora That "lighter shade" is what sun does to purple over 7 years! We'd had the whole house painted then for our daughter's wedding on the back deck Everything that is darker has been done in the past year as much of each of the walls was torn off... yah...money pit! But I SO agree with you about having enough left to buy a tombstone... (The kids love coming here, so it's all worthwhile!)
