Sliping Through Your Fingers by andycoleborn

Sliping Through Your Fingers

I saw a shot like this in a mag a few months back and thought I must give it a go, but then completely forgot about it. Then recall Vik doing a shot a little while ago ( http://365project.org/vikdaddy/365/2010-07-26) and as I was wondering what to take today, I thought... Hmmm... let's see if I can do something similar...

It was quite a bit harder to do than I expected, especially when holding the camera and not using a tripod!! It was in the car and I was too lazy to walk down and get it..

Used sugar but would of preferred to use sand - if I happened to have some sand hanging about the flat that is.. Turned into B&W and darkened as it looks more effective than the colour version.

Thanks Vik for today's pic - that's two I've copied now - this one and an idea I used at work...

Miserable day weather wise... rained pretty much all day. Suitable weather for my first day back in the office after 2 weeks away I guess..
I even like yours better than the other one. Fabulous picture Andy

This is quality, something about it may be the darker tones...shows a bit more emotion to the picture then Viks.

This is a great shot. Very clever. Will have to look through those mags again for tomorrow.

Great pic Andy, but boo to those who think it's better than mine (just kidding)!

Very cool (Vik's too of course!). Nice photo - which one did you use for work?

I actually prefer Vik's pic to mine, I feel mine doesn't show enough of the grains falling... And Freida, this was the idea I 'borrowed' for a leaflet I was putting together http://365project.org/vikdaddy/365/2010-06-10

It took a LOT of shots, and I was hardly happy with any of them. As Andy says, it's harder than it looks. I said it then and I'll say it now, "plagiarism is a requisite of photography". As long as you get the credit for it!

Andy, I prefer to think of it as an "homage" to Vikdaddy! ;-)
Great shot though!
Love the B&W!

damn this is awesome, really gritty, nice treatment of the photo and just enough time to suggest moving of the grains of sand

This turned out really nice--I like the lighting especially
