I learned to spin wool on a drop spindle when I was 14 years old and have continued the practice on and off as my life circumstances permitted. Over the past 40+ years, even when I couldn't get fleeces to spin, I continued learning new crafts and skills related to the process of turning fiber into fabric, and I now have a spinning wheel which produces yarn much faster, but I still enjoy the simplicity of the drop spindle, especially that it is portable and I can spin where ever I go instead of being tied to the room where my spinning wheel lives.
