This mama sparrow's nest is only a few feet away in one of the birdhouses my husband made. She is perched on the remains of last year's sunflower stalk which we decided to leave in that flowerbed, even though unattractive. The birds have loved sitting there. So there it stays! :-)
Good shot! We just had a bird photographer speak at our photo club. His specialty is photographing the birds in their natural habitat. One of the things he recommended for backyard bird photographers like myself is to leave lots of natural perches nearby. The birds love them. I've got two trees with some dead branches but I'm not cutting them for that reason. So your sunflower stalk is a great perch!
