Weekly Theme - Low Key

Hi guys, I'm totally confused about themes at the moment so I hope I've got the right one for you!

This weeks theme, as chosen by Zuzana is Low Key. Zuzana did mention Portraits in her email, but I think a more general theme will be a bit easier, please do try out portraits though, they can be excellent.

How to enter


If you wish to enter the theme this week, please tag your photo (on the edit/organise screen) with the tag theme-lowkey.

Entry Guidelines


Entry to this theme starts on Monday 21st May and will accept entries until Sunday night (23:59 GMT 27th May). 5 finalists will be chosen next week and we'll start voting on Wednesday. Entries must have been taken and uploaded this week only! Entries outside of the date range will not be accepted in to the final 5.

@scrivna - If you click "browse entries" it goes to the lowkey tag, not the theme-lowkey tag.

Does this mean that they must also only be uploaded into a slot from this week or can they be used in older vacant slots?

@alpeedee As far as I know so long as they've been taken this week and your exif info confirms the date they can be uploaded into one of your other albums or into a different slot.

I have been attempting to do minimal shots this week. I am definitely still learning a LOT about photography. Question: Can a shot be both a minimal shot and a low key shot? If so, how? I had thought I might try a low key shot, but I also want to continue with my minimal week long series.

@daisy yes definitely, look at some of the examples, in fact, most of them could claim to be minimal, the single point of light and focus is ideal

@alpeedee @withagoldenglow technically, as long as the exif states it is valid then it will be accepted, although that's not to say that if it's a close call and the other is uploaded within the week, it will likely be favored. Plus exif can easily be manipulated so I am more likely to "trust" a photo if it is published for this week.

How come my pictures with the tag Theme-lowkey are not showing in the entries section? I read that the tag was set wrong, but is this going to fixed? Or give the proper tag for to enter. Thank you.

also took this photo a few days before the theme was announced..didn't know what a low key photo was back then :)

I've tried putting "theme-lowkey" into my tags but it still isn't in the entries. Other photos seem to have just "low key" in the tag but if I put that in the computer turns the words round to key first then low. Tried different options, no result!

@maggiemae Don't worry what others are doing just type theme-lowkey and you will be entered, the tag screen won't update instantly with your entry.

I have checked every day since the 25th and still my photo is not there! I have re- tagged, removed, started again, jumped up and down, stared out the window, and nil! Others seem to have the same problem!

@Scrivna I have tried several times and several days to post my entry to theme-low key and have not seen it on there yet? Am i doing something wrong? i even changed it to the correct date as the pic was taken %/25/2012 and that still did not work! Help!! :)

@maggiemae My pic has shown up and disappeared, I've noticed, only to reappear again. I don't know what's up! Weird. also the number of pages has changed a few times: a few days ago, there were four pages of entries without my entry included; I reloaded the page and there were five, now with my pic on it. Dunno what's up!
