It was Wednesday 4th September. Coleton Fishacre was the former home of the D'Oyly Carte family, famed for their company producing Gilbert & Sullivan performances. Rupert D'Oyly and Lady Dorothy were sailing by the cliff at Pudcombe Cove, looked up and declared that was where they wanted to build their country retreat. I can see why, the setting is beautiful.
The house is a lovely design and is set up by the National Trust now to exhibit a lot of their 20's and 30's memorabilia. There was a lady playing the piano in the salon when we arrived and I sang along when I realised she was playing one of my favourite songs, "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square."
Lovely collection of photos from your visit to Coleton Fishacre and a very interesting read! How fun that you sang along to the song being played in the salon! Would love to have heard that!! 🤗
A wealth of great shots in your beautifully assembled collage. I had forgotten we visited here so will look up my photos, indulge in a little nostalgia!
