For Picknik lovers....try Picmonkey !

April 6th, 2012
I was very excited to discover picknik (via this site) then sad to find out that it is closing down, but I think if you liked picknik you will LOVE picmonkey - www.picmonkey.com

It's been set up by 2 ex picknik workers and has everything you loved about picknik, and they seem to be adding more every few days....they don't have collage yet but it's coming soon.

It's fun and funky, and I know that I won't miss picknik when it goes now !

Wow, how exciting! I can't wait to try it. Thanks for the review, because I was terrified of losing Picnik!

I've been using Picmonkey on and off for a few weeks and I like it. They are definitely adding things in slowly and I'm hoping the collage and mirror frames will be there soon. They've changed the names on some of the effects but there are many comparable to what's on Picnik now, so switching over is going to be rather harmless. Picmonkey is by far the easiest to use, but here are a two others that are free and have some nice features:
befunky.com
iPiccy.com

Picnik is also recommending Aviary. I haven't tried them yet. And Photofunia, Picture2life, and pixlr are also sites that have been recommended by other photographers here on 365.

I'm a picmonkey fan as well. Even seems to work a bit faster than picknik when uploading photos

I just tried PicMonkey for the first time today and I like it. I had tried Google+ Creative Kits but was dismayed to find no Cloning which I use a lot. Hurrah for PIcMonkey which also has it! I'll be using this one....

This is fantastic - thanks heaps for sharing. I originally used Picnik and was dissappointed to hear it was closing. Have since been using Photoshop and really can't do more with it than add a signature. PicMonkey is so simple and easy to use. Again thanks for sharing. :)

Thanks so much for this info Sharon, you're a life saver!! i was getting a liitle worried as the closing date for picnik is getting closer. I have just tried picmonkey and it's awesome with maybe a little more than picnik.....thanks again:)

Ok, so I checked it out... if they add dodge & burn and some textures, I'll pay for it when they start charging!

@sharonaddison @olivetreeann @onie I've been trying to use it but it keeps saying my files are too large - even when I shrink them - do you know what the size limit is for uploading? Thanks!
April 6th, 2012
@judithg I had that problem a few weeks ago when it first started, but I know they fixed the problem - am not sure what the size limit is...but I'm able to upload fine now
April 6th, 2012
Thanks - I'll have another go! I know some of my files ate about 10MB but Picnik takes them. PicMonkey wouldn't take 1.5MB before - I'll have another shot because it looks like a nice site.

I've just tried it and very impressed - no problem with file size although i tend to resize mine to 800 for web use
