For anyone who is game, there will be a new tag NTMC for 'New Technique of the Month Club.
Each month, a new technique will be announced complete with tutorials to help focus on a new skill. All those participating will simply tag their images NTMC.
For January, the technique is: 'Practice with your newest camera or lens' month for all of those that got new toys for Christmas. If you didn't get something new, pull out your least used lens or camera and keep with it throughout the month.
Disclaimers: Don't pressure yourself. Please don't feel that you have to shoot/post everyday in that 'technique'. Ideally, you'll just take MORE photos that month with the 'technique' in mind, but if you only manage one photo, hey, you did something new!
So, feel free to list what camera / lens you will be focusing on this month and tag your images and at the end of the month I will post the collection. Again, TAG your images NTMC. This is the only way we can track participants.
Happy New Years everyone!
Oh, and one final note. If for whatever reason you have nothing new or nothing old to play with, let Jan be a personal wild card month for yourself. Pick a new skill, read about it, and just do it. Just remember to tag your pics. I want everyone to feel included who wants to participate.
Hoping to participate in this exercise as well! I recently bought an on-camera pop up flash diffuser that I want to experiment with. I realize that this is not a new camera or lens - is that OK?
I had a kit that came with this:
But I really didn't like it. It was clunky and too much to pack up, plus didn't really work that well.
So I purchased this one, which I will be using for this exercise:
Every piece of camera equipment I own has been gathering dust these last four months so I'm not sure which one to blow the dust off first. Might see if I can borrow a fisheye lens and have a bit of an experiment with that. There again, it might be my very dusty lensbaby.
I'm looking forward to learning our new Canon EOS Rebel SL1 (aka EOS 100D) this year. I also hope to become more familiar with Photoshop and Lightroom by at least taking advantage of the free month.
Thank you so much for setting this up Krista! This will give me the motivation to pull my new camera, the Nikon D810, out of its box and get on with it! I have procrastinated long enough, and January 1 seems like a good time to start using it. If I manage to master that I might dust off the lensbaby I have not used in about a year! Really excited about this!
Got my first shoot in with my new 7D Mark II! Hoping to play with that diffuser next + I also have a set of filters I haven't touched that I may play with today.
This is a great idea! I received a crystal ball for Christmas and I have a variable neutral density filter I got in the last couple of months that I haven't had much occasion to use. I will try using those (though probably not at the same time!) for NTMC this month. Thanks, Krista, for putting this all together!
I'm in! For January I will be using the Sony Rx100 M3 that I got for a combined 70th Birthday/Christmas present, that I intend to have about my person at all times.
