ETSOOI is an acronym started by MaryBeth @espeyetta that means EDITING THE SORRY-NESS OUT OF IT. It is what we do when there is a need to post a shot and we have taken nothing impressive enough for the day.
The challenge will start today and run until Saturday the 9th of June. Your picture must be taken during that time. Voting of the top 5 will begin and end on Sunday the 10th. The winner will host the next challenge and choose a theme for a new subject. This week the subject is wide open!
Tag your photos ETSOOI-1 and have fun! You may also post them here if you like.
This sounds like a fun challenge! If I take the pic within the correct time frame (can see from the exif camera info) but post it on a different month (since I don't have ACE) will that still count?
@grammyn Oh my! Haha. I guess I need to participate. I won't win though. I may have coined "ETSOOI" but when I do it, the photo is not all that attractive when I am done. That gorgeous orange flower up there is amazing! @m9f9l
Thank you @espyetta Won't work for this challenge cause I took and processed it on the 3rd,LOL Inspiration to do some more this week. Now I'm going to go look at your pics!
@m9f9l My ETSOOIs are ugly! haha..I usually ETSOOI when my photo is not too great in the first place. LOL! But come on over and visit my albums! :0) I will go check yours out too!
@lauralatham I failed to mention (and have just posted the change ) that the photo must be taken between the starting and stopping days! I love this shot so I am sure you will be able to come up with another equally amazing photo
If you edit the crap out of a photo there is always the chance that the exif info will be gone, especially if you use any layers and stuff. I mean it will be difficult to edit the shit out of or into a photo since the need for the exif kind if kills the mood by causing limitations. See?
@5unflow3r Yeah, I did not realize that because I only use Pikmonkey, and other free online things...It does destroy my exif on collages....but that is it. but I have heard others say that their software methods always mess up or delete the exif
@sharritta It looks as if you have already mastered the art by these two shots you have posted earlier! Looking forward to what you enter in the challenge!
This really sounds fun, I love psycho-processing, but being a non-ace member I wouldn't be able to verify dates... have to stick 'em in April after processing out the shot date... Oh well.
@lesphoto Leslie...I saw you doing some really pretty editing and was going to suggest you tag your shots, but I see you have found this thread....that is lovely up there!
@espyetta Thanks MaryBeth, but I'll have to actually delete tags - I'm not sure I met the date range! Saw that later! Oh well, gives me a chance to do this one more time this week! Thanks for the info and your lovely comments.
@grammyn Thank you Katy - didn't meet the date range, been struggling with a shot everyday lately, but will try again before the 9th. I love doing this and hope discussions along these lines continue to pop up every once and a while.
@lesphoto Yeah, I had that happen with that street photo week 5 challenge..I had one that met the theme for the week but I took it two days before the date range. Oh well. You can do another one of these though! P:0)
I am loving the post-processing that everyone is doing it really is fab. What I would like to know is 'Does this site have any post-processing workshops?'
@grammyn Thanks for the flattery! ;-D Well, I took the original and made 3 different versions; (1) full colour SOOC, (2) dithered grayscale, and (3) sepia. I layered them and played around with transparence until I was satisfied. After saving the resulting picture, I very carefully corrected contrast, hue and saturation. Yes, it took me hours... ;-p
@aurorajane I am not aware of any workshops but someone else may be more informed than I am! I do know that you can google and check you tube for just about anything you are interested in.
@grammyn thanks Katy. Over time I have purchased quite a number of magazines - but felt they were too wordy. We have a long weekend coming up this weekend - mmmm I think the time is now to start practicing? Google is great if you know what your looking for, but I am often baffled by the names of certain styles. Actually.... think I might take some of those mags to work and use my lunchbreak constructively?? Cheers everyone :) Again thanks Katy
@aurorajane It can be a daunting task if you don't know where to start! Picmonkey .com. ipiccy.com, befunky.com are just a few of free online editing programs that could help you with ETSOOI. Try one and just jump around in it! I have no idea how to use photoshop or any of the other more advanced programs but there are lots of people on this site that can guide you if you are interested in one of them.
I took three of the ant in the water drops/leaves....Here is the one that explains the ETSOOI...now I intend to try a more funky, abstract one in the next day or so.... I am now adding here that this really is NOT the kind of ETSOOI acceptable for the challenge. Haha This is too normal!
Great idea @grammyn to have a place to just post a pic that you can just play with & get creative. I'm sure I will be a regular on this one. I have the camera challenge to improve my skills & be serious, I have the edit the stuffings challenge to just have fun!
So, this is my entry for this challenge - I had a tonnes of fun! Have never done editing to this degree before, but I had a great time trying out every command in Photoshop :D
This one was a rather boring tourist-like shot for the family album but one of the only shots I got today, so I tried some tilt-shift and colour overrule
Blowing a serious gale and very wet, to the extent that our County Show had to be called off today! Definitely convinced me that I am a fair weather photographer, a quick nip into the garden and then back to the computer to ETSOOI for the challenge!
@ridley Don't be at all! I looked for it the other day and couldn't find it ! that is why I offered to help you instead of directing you right to it! ;~}
@grammyn Yup, some people like me need more time to get our brains in gear to do something creative. Or - we can start with a photo and keep editing it until June - wonder what it would look like by that time?
@herr_mm Aha! fabulous ETSOOI! In order to be in the contest you need to tag it etsooi-7. I know you don't want to win (based on the mundane abstract challenge a while back) ;~} but this is really the wrong thread! i don't know why it keeps coming up! Sorry!
@grammyn ETSOOI just keeps coming back to haunt you with this thread? It keeps posting ...I guess because it gets a comment? Uh oh...so I am making it worse posting this! Bye!
This started as a "light painting" of traffic and street lights on my way to the car after an evening baseball game. It was OK but not what I wanted. So I inverted the colors and messed around with saturation and color temperature to get this.
