Thank you to all those who participated and voted on the challenge last week featuring ball point pen. As the lucky winner, I have the pleasure of being the host of this week's Abstract-Mundane Challenge!
Thanks to Bob @bobolaf for organizing the last challenge. Congratulations Darren @darrenboyj for winning the Mundane Challenge, who has picked 'Shoe' as the subject for this challenge.
The Abstract Mundane Challenge runs parallel with the Mundane Challenge, using the same object as chosen by the host of the Mundane Challenge. However, there is a distinct difference between the two. For the Mundane Challenge, the object must clearly be “the star” of the photo and recognizable. For the ABSTRACT Mundane Challenge, the object should not be immediately recognizable - it should be far more abstract.
The shoe was chosen for the Mundane Challenge, so that is the object we will be using as well. The Challenge officially starts today, 22nd June and runs through to the end of Saturday 29th June! On Sunday 30th June, I'll post the five finalists for voting.
Please TAG them abstract-shoe and feel free to include them in this thread.
The winner of the challenge will be the next host.
Good luck everyone! I look forward to see all the creativity.
@darrenboyj my husband is the same way. He has 3 pairs of shoes, doesn't buy shoes unless he needs to replace one of them and he hates shoe shopping. Me, I buy shoes to add to my collection. Some of us women love shoes and that's why I was joking about it. In the most basic sense, it is definitely a mundane object. I hope you didn't think I was questioning your choice.
Come on, everyone! It's already Wednesday and we only have 5 submissions for the abstract shoe challenge. Although that makes my job of selecting 5 finalists super duper easy, I do want to see a healthy competition of amazing works from all you guys.
Shoes CAN be abstract. Just focus on the little details instead of the whole picture, blur it, low light it, creatively crop it, ETSOOI (Edit the s**t out of it), there are SO many ways. Put your thinking cap on, and let's get to work and create something amazing. Here are couple of links that may help:
I'll see what I can come up with - had some smashing shots for the mundane shoe - pity it's not been great thus far on the abstract. Will drum up some interest on my posts :)
@ikamera Thanks for the two great links!
I was very inspired by the shoe-theme, though not a real shoe-lover but more of a shoe-user :)
The etsooi-12 challenge with the theme transparency hasn't had too many entries yet also. What's happening?
@darrenboyj Your pic with lost children's shoe was indeed smashing. I would have gone right past it, it's amazing you got a great picture with it. Waiting to see what you can come up with for abstract challenge.
@stimuloog I know. I think there are too many good challenges going on and everyone wants to try them all. I know I do. Hope we will get some more entries towards the end of the challenge dates. Your abstract entry is a good one.
Thanks to everyone who has entered the challenges so far, still room for plenty more though!
Just over a day left to get your entries in and be in with a chance of hosting next week. So why not join in and give it a go?! Take a picture of a shoe (any shoe or footwear related item will suffice) and try to make it as interesting as you can! If you think that might be too easy, try an abstract shoe shot instead - give your brains a creative workout!! Tag your pictures either mundane-shoe or abstract-shoe.
If nothing else, it can be an idea for your shot tomorrow!

Sexy.
Looks like Darren didn't realize, a shoe isn't a mundane object for a lot of women here after all. :-P
Nice shot btw :)
