ETSOOI-36! Flora & Fauna

June 11th, 2014
Hey gang, thanks for choosing my photo, "Swirly, Swirly Night" as the winner of ETSOOI-35! How exciting! I am sure Vincent Van Gogh was rolling over in his grave over that one! LOL!

ETSOOI is an acronym that I started using during my first year on 365. It means EDITING THE S*&^% OUT OF IT. It is a processing strategy I would employ when my "photo of the day" was boring or bad. I'd juice it up a little.

I like how @taffy explained it: "It may be what we do when there is a need to post a shot and we have taken nothing impressive enough for the day or it may be what we do when we have an idea for an image but it can't be done SOOC."

You don't have to have Photoshop! I don't. Some programs and apps you can use are:
http://www.picmonkey.com/
http://www.ribbet.com/
http://pixlr.com/
http://www.gimp.org/- NOT user friendly, but does Photoshop type edits

Apps:
Snapseed- also online
Photowizard (one of my personal favorites..similar to Photoshop)
Picsart
Waterlogue
Percolator
Befunky- also online
Tiny Planets

So, here we go with ETSOOI-36! No, I am not going with "theme-bugmacro!" That would just be so wrong (LOL), and probably there would be no entries. So, while I love a good bug photo, that will not be the theme.

The theme is...."Flora and Fauna." As in the game Twenty questions, if your photo depicts something someone could answer "yes" to if asked 'Is it a plant? " or " Is it an animal?" then you are on the right track!

YOU MAY ENTER AS MANY ETSOOI-36 photos as you would like.

There are many examples of previous ETSOOI images on this site-- just search the tag ETSOOI and you'll see hundreds. The main idea for this challenge is to have FUN and use post-processing to create something you cannot do simply in camera.

It is not required, but if you could post your original photo and link it in the "write up" of your ETSOOI-36 entry, along with some of the steps you took to process the photo, that would be great. It helps others know what you did to create your photo.

The challenge will start today, Wednesday/June 11 and run until Wednesday/June 18 at 5:00 p.m. Atlanta time (EST-US). Your picture must be taken during that time. Voting of the top 5 will occur from June 19-21. The finalist will be announced sometime on the 22nd or 23rd of June. The winner will host the next challenge and choose a theme (which can be "no theme" if he or she wants) for a new subject. Again, this week the subject is "Flora and Fauna."

Tag your photos ETSOOI-36 and have fun! Try to go to others who are tagging their photos ETSOOI-36 and comment on their attempts.

You may also post them here in this thread if you like. You do that by opening your photo, clicking on the "3 dots" icon under it, select and copy the EMBED code, and then paste that EMBED code in this discussion thread.

Have fun with your ETSOOI! I am excited to see what you come up with!

@ikamera Kiran...this floral ETSOOI is amazing...like a beautiful piece of stationery.... How did you process this?
June 16th, 2014
@espyetta thank you! I'll try to remember what I did to get this. With etsooi, it's always a lot of playing around that I don't remember what I did when I'm done. Lol.
- added a purple exclusion color layer,
- added a stained coffee paper texture and on top of it added texturizer with canvas texture.
- Tweaked saturation, levels and brightness/contrast.
- Added sharpening.

I'm positive that's all I did. :-)

@studiouno This is so dramatic and colorful! I love that color combination and the "geometric" feel to this! Wow.
