I am really delighted and amused that our collective love of travel and of photographing places where we have been has turned into another challenge before any of us realized it! So, thank you to Brigitte @brigitte and Nicole @nicolecampbell for starting this fun, new challenge. And, thanks to Mona @mona65 for selecting my photo of the Bay Bridge as one of the finalists for San Francisco, and to all who voted for my photo.
So, now I get to host the next one, and I have chosen the city of Sydney in Australia. I have never been there, but it is definitely on my list of places to visit. I hope you will all join in and post your photos, not only of the iconic landmarks, but also of the more intimate places familiar to those who live there.
The theme will run from today, September 29 until October 6. So you have a full weekend in this timeframe, to go through those archives and choose your favorite Sydney images, or take some new ones. Post as many photos as you like and use the tag City-Sydney. I will choose my favorite images for you to vote and the winner will get the opportunity to host the next city challenge.
I can't wait to see the pictures. And please share them in this thread (optional) so everyone else can enjoy them too.
@annied@dibzgreasley@newbank@taffy@amandal@fearinnocent I have found out that 365 is the next best thing for those places we have not been able to visit yet, so I have opened this up to Australia, and I will vicariously live through these photos! I am also making amends to all, especially @nicolecampbell when I chose the Theme-Summer when down under they were in the thick of winter! ;-)))
@panthora :) thanks! I really love looking at people's travel photo's and perhaps just images of where they live!! Long time since I've been to Sydney so this will be fun! ps @Brigette !
This is a monument at Hyde Park Barracks. Originally the barracks housed convicts, but in 1848 the use was changed to housing refugees. 4000 girls were brought from workhouses in Ireland and resettled in Australia during the Irish Famine. The names on the glass are some of the girls. We often look at historical buildings without thinking of the people who used them, these names are a good reminder of the people who lived here.
I posted this for the Sydney Challenge as it is a reminder of the early years of Sydney.
Apologies for entering so many at once, just picking some from different aspects of Sydney. I moved to Sydney for University when I was 16, and have lived there off and on since then. The last time was in 2010.
This is an Eastern blue tongue lizard. Very common around Sydney, particularly in suburbs around the National Parks.
@imaginings Thank you so much Sue for posting all of these wonderful and diverse photos of Sydney, your adopted city! I love the one where the Opera House appears so psychedelic, but also the water skiers with the flags, and all the details.
From Vivid Sydney a number of years ago
Australia Day at Penrith, a number of years ago.

Sydney life would not be the same without the Harbour. This is an annual dragon boat race that brings colour to the harbour.
I like this perspective on the bridge - it is the view from the ferry on approach to the bridge.
last one - the Queen Victoria Building. Now an upmarket shopping arcade.
The more the merrier....
Sydney was my home for a while - but I am now in Rural Australia - and love the peace and quiet.
