Artist challenge -- Giorgio Morandi

September 6th, 2016
thanks for your votes , it is always a pleasure to host my favorite challenge,

i like to interpret artists who are not necessarily photographers, so I have selected the Italian painter and printmaker Giorgio Morandi (1890- 1964 ) to be our muse this time. So Your challenge is to either copy as closely as you can a particular work or take inspiration from his style and subject matter.

Morandi is best known for his natura morta ((stillife ) paintings of bottles , i find it interesting that he lived his whole life in the same house and had his collection of bottles that he used time and again in one room, . He did also paint landscapes around his village, and his prints were etchings,.

there is a quick slideshow of his work here on youtube Morandi

This is a basic overview of his style link

a selection of works from various periods link

A video about an exhibition of his work from the 1930s link

trailers for an Italian documentary with English subtitles 1 2

discussion of particular works link

Please link to any particular work that inspired you in your description

tag your entries ac-morandi

the challenge starts now and will end on Tuesday the 20th of September

Hope you enjoy this!

Just slipped in under the wire. Thank you for setting this, it's well out of my comfort zone and I've really enjoyed musing on it for almost too long!
