Five more days and then it's May. Time now to think about your half-and-half photos. This year, I'm glad to co-host this challenge with the pretty Nicole Campbell @nicolecampbell . Welcome back, Nicole!
If you follow the Half and Half Project on Instagram you will know they describe this type of photography as 'Parallel lines meet together in our minds'. It is a quirky way of explaining how to capture two separate scenes in the one photo.
Many 365ers have been participating in this challenge for the past several years now. It is a lot of fun. You can join for the whole month, a week or whenever you have what appears to be 2 halves in one shot. Some people like to set themselves a theme for each week and others like to mix it up and capture a different subject each day.
The challenge is quite simple, you just need to change the way you look at subjects/objects when you photograph them. Here are a few tips to help you:
1. Capture a photo that appears to be of two halves. For example a solid wall in one half of the photo and a door in the other or a tree trunk in one half of the image and the surrounding landscape in the other half. You are capturing what appears to be two separate scenes in the one photo, you are not taking two photos and combining them into one.
2. If you take your photo in a square format or plan to crop it square your images will appear symmetric and look very nice.
3. You can capture horizontal or diagonal lines. How you approach the theme is entirely up to you.
4. Have fun. Once you train your mind to look at potential images in this way you will see them everywhere."
I must admit I had forgotten last year's , but after a little thought I shall give it a try again this year - A theme is always good to train your mind and be more observant! Thanks for reminding us!
Thanks for the reminder. I will do my best to join. Work has been crazy this month. I’ve picked up the work of another person as they are on Family Leave and am just exhausted at the end of the day.
