Has anybody else experienced this today? I've lost 17 in the past few hours. Is the website clearing up dead wood? And is this why it's so slow tonight?
I was away for a while and got an email saying that if I didn't log on in the next 24 hours, my account would be deleted. It actually motivated me to get started again....but that might be why you are losing followers. You haven't lost me!
i dont notice , i have no idea how many followers i had until i looked cos of this thread. I will keep an eye on it now. @alisongbradshaw that makes sence , to clear out the site of users that dont use the site anymore.
oh look at that i just had 2 removed in that short time. Oh well .. Not to worry , i wont loose any sleep. Ive been a slack follower to all my friends lately so i understand if i get dropped.
@vikdaddy None of my followers have dropped out yet, but looking over the list of who I follow, there's 16 I haven't heard from in over 4 months. Does anybody delete people when they disappear or do you just wait until they come back around? That has happened with 2 of the folks I follow and 1 "retired" for an indefinite period.
yep, as @vikdaddy put it, the cull has begun, I've started removing old accounts that are no longer active.
Everyone will see followers / followees drop significantly as of tonight, this will continue to be an ongoing process.
The reason this has all come about is that the monthly bills for keeping all the inactive accounts on the server is getting out of hand, we store millions of photos that are no longer accessed and they are costing me a lot of money! by removing these "dead" accounts I can invest more in improving the site!
I know sites like Facebook and Google can afford to keep your photos forever, but this is a small site ran by 1 person (me) and every penny has to be accounted for.
Everyone is given 1 weeks notice prior to account deletion to give them the opportunity to log in.
I'm sure you'll all appreciate a site that runs quicker and has more up to date content on it!
@Scrivna If someone still wants to look at others' photos but hasn't uploaded in a while, will they still be able to? My daughter still logs in daily to communicate with me through her account, but hasn't uploaded any photos in her project since April. I'd hate to lose her...she's my biggest fan!
@dejongdd accounts are considered inactive if they have not been logged in to within 2 months, if your daughter logs in regularly her account it safe, this is really just to remove the users that are no longer using the site.

Seem reasonable to me. I can't see keeping the pictures or accounts. I bet I'll lose at least one of my favorites but alas we keep moving forward don't we?
@Scrivna --- question: there are a few who use all three albums and are filling them up. Just curious. What happens when they all are full for a year?
@Scrivna Thank you! I just noticed a massive drop in my followers (over 60!) but I like that the site seems to be running quicker and will obviously improve further over time. =D
@olivetreeann - I've deleted a few after realising they've been inactive for ages and haven't posted any pics for, say, two months... I follow a lot of people and am struggling to comment everyday on those, so I don't feel bad for doing this!
hmm i've actually noticed mine got boosted alot, at least 10 followers, but thats probably because i am new and haven't had time for inactive people to follow me as well as i got my first picture on the popular page so i am sure that boosted followers as well.
Yeah!!! I lost 22 followers overnight! I was like D: omg, people don't like my photos anymore! But I see it is a server-cleansing process, which is good! :D
Yes, the number has come down a few. Probably because of this culling or people are just bored of my stuffx3 a day. Can't blame them cos even I sometimes am bored with my own photos ha ha.
Ah, I thought there was something wrong with me. I lost like fifty followers in the past day or so and it really really freaked me out! Thanks for the clarification!
I never check, I have no idea. That would be nice, though! I'm sure there's a huge amount of dead accounts floating around. Ew...got a nasty visual with that statement.
Ha! I've been keeping up on dropping myself from those who have stopped posting so no surprise there. I did lose about 20 followers. Not bad at all. Personally, I'd much rather have a handful of followers who talk to me over hundreds who don't. So, those of you still hanging in there with me .... THANK YOU! :-)

I'm with you, Ross. I think you're absolutely right to do this. I wouldn't expect my photos to remain here if I wasn't active. Thanks for all you do for us. :)
I'm starting to see a great benefit to the cull that Ross has done. Now that he's dropped the inactive, the actual views of my pictures are not changing, but the percentage of my followers viewing the pictures has improved. This has resulted in my getting a few pics onto the much maligned Popular Page, and the usual slew of new followers. This has generated a cycle of new comments and the start of possible new friendships. Thanks @scrivena for keeping it real :)
Its a good idea, and I understand the need for it. The only downfall is you lose all of your faves. (Well not ALL of them, but you know what I mean.) I enjoy looking through my faves, even the inactives. It gives me inspiration and motivation to keep trying and to keep improving. Oh well, I guess.
@Scrivna - you have done amazing things as the sole keeper of this site...thank you for all your work and for giving all of us a great place to play and get our art on!:)
I've lost like 18 followers in the past 24 hours!! D: But I suppose that is a good thing, to clear out the site of non-active members.( But I still hate seeing that number go down lol!!)
@eleanor I was having the same exact thoughts! Other than a rare shot over the past 6 months or so, I have not seen much of the popular page and my own new followers and comments have nearly run dry. Change is good!
ok...i just lost like 30 to 35 followers and one just sent me an message saying that i was dropped from his list and he had to follow me back...hmmmmmmmmm
I've lost a few - not really sure because it's not something I've paid particular attention to. What saddens me is that some people whom I followed and who took excellent, interesting (and inspiring!) photos are no longer here. That's definitely MY loss.
Well, interesting. I thought my number was lower, but I've never memorized it, so I thought maybe I was confusing it with my Facebook friends. Ha! Oh, well! Glad you're all still here!!! xo
@jools @ @robinwarner@Scrivna
I think the culling is necessary, but in the process there may be some errors like those who normally have been commenting on our photos have to "re-follow" us again. This may be some technical error?
I was starting to get a bit of a complex about the loss of followers because I'm doing a month of selfies right now. Especially today, I lost 5 or 6 followers and I thought it was the strange and kind of hideous shot that I posted, lol. Phew, glad I can blame it on something else!
@viranod I've had a few people re-follow me in the past couple of days. That explains it then. I thought they'd unfollowed me and then changed their mind or something.
OK...I've got the really wierd one...while trying to find out who I had lost...you know the drill...scan down the list...I found a new body right in there with the 6 months ago bodies (not at the top of the list where new bodies go). I also suspect that the new body doesn't know that she's following me. (that's OK because she has awesome pics and I can just go in and have a sneaky look)
Same here, I've lost 5 in two days (And I think 1 or 2 before)... Which doesn't sound like many, but it's something... At least compared to how many I have. :P
I've lost almost 200 since the I started this thread... but it's quality, not quantity. If people are no longer contributing then it's only fair their accounts are deleted.
@vikdaddy
Only that I was planing to finish the project and imagine myself looking back at the pics in a few years time. I guess that won't happen. Never know when my account and all the year's worth of pics will be deleted if I stop doing the project and forget to log in (ace account or not!) Oh, well.
@viranod - I have no problem at all with the culling proces; I'm merely sad that some people who've posted extraordinarily wonderful photos have stopped doing so, effectively culling themselves.
@jools@swilde Thank you. I understand that the culling is necessary as the cost of maintaining inactive account is huge. However, I also feel sorry for the people who may have not logged in and still expect their 365 works to be here when they want to access and enjoy the memories. I myself am planing to do just that, and now it's not possible any longer.
@viranod Remember though Nod, they would have got a polite reminder email prior to what I term as 'the cull'. If they chose not to / were too busy to log in, then there's little point in them staying. If they want to stay for the memories, they just need to log on once in a while to remain active!
@Scrivna Thanks Ross. I will put a reminder sticker next to my bed :)
Not criticizing tho. You do what you need to do to keep the site alive, and that is wonderful work. Really appreciate it.
@Scrivna Thank you for all that you do and making this possible for those of us who enjoy it. My mere pittance of an ace membership fee is quite a bargain for what I get out of your site.
its a shame the people who are jsut views are getting deleted too, as had some friends register, didn't upload but they viewed mine and others work, ---they're not taking up much space on a server - only a name and e-mail add :o(
So I just looked at my followers count, for the first time in a couple weeks. I've lost 70! I'm hoping this is some form of record. Also lost 50 followees! Crivens.
Still got 97 dead accounts following me though, dang.
Anyway, nice one Ross, this is a cool feature. I love tidying stuff :D
I wish I knew for sure how many followers I used to have before the cleaning process began. I think it was something beginning with a 4.
I obviously had quite a few follower-corpses that have been dragged off.
Site is dog slow tonight tho....
Lost about five I'm following too.
but agree, Ross must be clearing out old accounts...

We all have to spring clean on occasion.
Thanks fro all your efforts.
