Heart-Shaped Shadows!

February 5th, 2014
With Valentines' Day rapidly approaching, I thought it would be fun to share our heart-shaped shadows (or other heart-shaped images). If you are interested, I put up a heart-shaped shadow tutorial: http://www.boostyourphotography.com/2014/02/heart-shaped-shadow.html I tagged mine " heart-shadow."

Or, hearts without shadows, still using books:

Thanks Katie. I've had a hard time with getting my ring to stay upright.
February 5th, 2014
@debrac The mini-hold I mention in the article is a perfect stealth solution!

Extra special because I found it like that instead of ripping it in to a heart shape :)

@lesleyallen These are so lovely! What were all the little heart rings from?
February 6th, 2014
@wenbow These are both beautiful! I love the idea of shooting from 'inside' the heart. Will definitely have to try that one!
February 6th, 2014
@cindygenn Super clever! Had to click on this one to figure out the trick. Great idea.
February 6th, 2014
@grapefruit So sweet! I love natural, found hearts. This is a cool one, for sure.
February 6th, 2014
@sewsharyn Beautiful Sharon, and great in black and white. Love the idea of using the curve of a mug handle!
February 6th, 2014
@cazann Really cool, Caz! I don't think I've ever seen this idea of using fingers to create the shadow. So cool!
February 6th, 2014
@mlulu191 Awesome one, Megan! What a cool find! Did you keep it?
February 6th, 2014
@mittens Super cute! Great against the red wall.
February 6th, 2014
@northy Heh heh heh. Awesome.
February 6th, 2014
@grapefruit @mlulu191 Here's a cool project my third graders did earlier in the year ... they were looking for natural hearts but mostly ended up creating their own. http://www.artisbasic.com/2013/10/see-heart-share-heart-3rd-grade-photography-unit-hearts.html
February 6th, 2014
Not really a shadow but I did this about a year back.

February 6th, 2014
And there was this one (that wasn't a shadow either!)

February 6th, 2014
Sort of shadows?

This was the last shot of a little story, for the full story, see:
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Then this one.
February 6th, 2014
I had to go back 4 years to find this one...
February 6th, 2014
Cheers! :)
February 6th, 2014
I took this one over a year ago

February 6th, 2014
Jo
Did this way back in week one of my project 2013,

Here's mine...

February 6th, 2014
I don't know if this one really counts as a shadow or not but it is hearts...

February 6th, 2014
Great thread @archaeofrog . I loved looking at all of the pics!
February 6th, 2014
I did this for the weekly theme - drama, it involves hearts, but alas, broken.

February 7th, 2014
@archaeofrog love that idea. I may have to steal it for my class.
February 7th, 2014
@grapefruit Do it!
February 7th, 2014
@steampowered Ooh, creepy and dramatic! And that second one is a cool find!

@bulldog Works for me. Super!

@swilde Love this one! Was this a book you chose on purpose? (And did you need something to keep the ring up?)

@mzzhope Fun! Accident or intentional?

@psychographer Beautiful! Love the bokeh bouncing around inside the book heart.

@jo13 Very cute! Love shaped bokeh!

@kimshawball Cute! Really like the colors in the background against this.

@lindsaydaisyboo Really cool idea and way to turn the concept on its head!
February 7th, 2014
Really fun thread @archaeofrog ! Thanks for starting it.
February 7th, 2014
@kimshawball Thanks, Kim! Figured it was a good time to get into the Valentines-photography mood.
February 9th, 2014
Here's another one I tried....

February 9th, 2014
@kimshawball Lovely! Did you have to hold the pages together in the back or did they stay by themselves?
February 9th, 2014
@aliciakgregory Hi Alicia! Are you trying to share your picture from the 7th with all the heart-shapes? If you want the photo to appear in the discussion, look over on the right-hand side of the picture page and under the "share" options is a text box. Copy all of that paste it here, and presto, it's your picture!
February 9th, 2014
@archaeofrog , They just stayed by themselves.
February 9th, 2014
@kimshawball Nice!
February 10th, 2014
@archaeofrog thanks so much, I am new and was wondering how I could get my pic on thread! was sick so did not spend too much time investigating, so u read my mind! Awesome!

@cazann Awesome light and silvery glow here. Fabulous!
February 12th, 2014
Here's a few I've done

@soozieqt Very cool collection! I like the side angle and the gilded-look of the bottom pages.
February 13th, 2014
February 13th, 2014
@cindygenn Awesome natural heart!
February 13th, 2014

February 13th, 2014
@debrac Oooh, a bit mysterious without seeing what is casting the shadow! (Also kind of funny that 'lower class' is the best definition I can see on the 'love' page.)
