Nail Puzzle

This trio of nails is way up high on the side of the tool shed at our farm in West Virginia. The farm was built in 1872, and this is one of the original buildings.

I have taken this photo before, but am still completely taken by these old nails and their why.
I wanted to see if my skills have progressed. It's hard to say. Taking a photo while balancing on a stepstool that is probably older than I am, on soil that was so waterlogged that it squelched when we walked on it, was a masterful feat...and I am not yet a master. Nevertheless, I like this photo, and when this toolshed has to come down, this board is mine.
Lovely story, I can imagine you there, balanced on a rickety stool moving in the mud. but so worth it for this beautiful slice of everyday history. Would be great to have a time machine to take you back to a view of the nails going in and the whos and whys and whats. Whether or not your skills have improved, the photo is certainly a good one.

Such a cool story! Isn't amazing how things can stand the test of time the way that they do? I also laughed at the visual of the step stool, balancing and the marshy ground!!

Lovely textures, and it goes to prove we will will attempt anything for that photo!

Beautiful tones and really like how you compised this with the nails to the side.

There is a definite musical quality to this, the bend of the nails and the textures- I would make sure to save this beauty too.

Love this! The textures and colors in the old wood work so well with those fascinating nails. Well worth the risk to life and limb on the old stepstool! We photographers are a hearty lot!! :)

@helenhall Thank you so much! I think about a time machine so often as I look at the house and outbuildings. I love to look at the construction methods and wonder. It is essentially unchanged inside except for electrical and plumbing (added in 1965 by my husband's grandfather). It still has the old gas lights throughout. The walls, floors, and ceilings are all tongue and groove.

@mlwerkheiser Thank you very much! I agree! I think these buildings are doing well to still be here given the rain, snow, and grapevine they have had to deal with.

@ribbet9 Thank you very much! Indeed! Photographers are a determined lot!

@moonmtn Thank you so much! I like the remnants of green paint on the wood.

@granagringa Thank you! I appreciate your comment very much!

@stimuloog Your comment made me smile! Thank you!

@cmsch52 Thank you very much for your comment and encouragement!

@joysabin Thank you so much for your lovely comment! There is so much character in this little shed that I imagine I will be saving many parts of it. It may become part of my new workshop.

@milaniet Thank you so much for your comment. The two nails are what drew me in; the texture, color, and story are what keeps me coming back.
