This little bear, largely unnoticed, sits underneath a bench in Folkestone Central Railway Station. He's made of bronze, painted to look like a child's toy, and is firmly fixed to the platform. He is part of an artwork by Tracey Emin for a previous Folkestone Triennial where she donated a series of bronze sculptures entitled 'Baby Things' to the town. They are all small and unobtrusive and are distributed around the town - a small baby jacket, a little boot, a mitten. There is a high number of teenage mothers in the area and this is what gave her the idea apparently.
What a great idea!! He looks a little lost and as the others say I wonder how many people have gone to pick him up. A creative idea for a piece of art work (and a great pair of hairy legs!! lol)
I am not sure I quite know what to say. Great that you've caught it on camera. (Note to self, be aware of the trip hazards deliberately but randomly installed around Folkestone).
It would have been removed with a grinder around my way that is for sure. Again the message is a little lost on me, but a nice gesture by Tracey to donate these pieces.
