Versailles - Marie Antoinette's Village by fishers

Versailles - Marie Antoinette's Village

More of Versailles for you today - there was just so much of interest there!

Marie Antoinette had her own retreat in the grounds of Versailles, the Petit Trianon, with it's own extensive grounds. It was a present to her from Louis XVI on his accession to the throne.

Within the grounds of the Petit Trianon she has built a village in Norman style, for her and her children to enjoy the pleasures of the countryside. However, the interiors of the buildings were far more luxurious than any real village would be!

Here in this shot, two of the surviving buildings are seen across the lake around which the village was built.

Thank you Debbie, and thank you for the fav! - I hope your daughter enjoys her visit to Versailles. If she is on a guided tour she probably won't see this village as its a long way from the main house - but the main house is stunning!

@bobhuegel

Thank you Bob - this building is a long way from the main house. Lucy and I were both exhausted after a long day around the Palace and gardens, and there was still much that we didn't get to see.

Beautiful PoV and composition! Fav! Another thing I missed while in Paris! Makes me wonder what I did with my time! The buildings do look gorgeous on the outside! Did you go inside too?

You're right Ian - a whole week is scarcely enough in this park. I'm lucky: my neighbours actually live and work in Paris during the week, and Sandrine is the sous-prefet of Versailles and the sous-prefet's house is in the park!

@angelat

Thank you Angela - Lucy and I have worked hard to see as much as possible of the city, and Lucy has lived there since October so knows a lot of places to see.
