This summer Yorkshire Sculpture International is presenting seven major sculptures by Damien Hirst as part of the inaugural edition of a festival taking place across Leeds and Wakefield. Two of the sculptures are in the streets of Leeds
Damien Hirst was born in Bristol in 1965 and he grew up in Leeds, and it was in Leeds that he first trained as an artist.
The two sculptures illustrated in this collage are:
Hymn (1999-2005), is displayed on Briggate, and is a 20 foot painted bronze sculpture that weighs over six tons. The work was originally inspired by an anatomical model belonging to Hirst's son, Connor.
Anatomy of an Angel (2008) is displayed in the Victoria Quarter. The classical-style marble sculpture depicts a cherubic angel with her internal organs exposed.
Do we want to see this on a nice city trip.? Supose more at the hospital. Damien Hirst loves to provoke. Take his shark or diamond skull. Never the less, great shots of those interesting sculptures
What interesting and unusual sculptures. This looks like something a doctor might commission. I guess this artist has determined that angels are physically created just like humans.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
Damien Hirst has always sought to challenge people through his art, and there has been much controversy over the years. While his work is not to everyone's taste, these sculptures were attracting a lot of discussion on the streets of Leeds.
