Another shot from Bootham Bar, this time looking west to Exhibition Square, which has changed quite a lot to help deal with the pandemic crisis.
The last relaxation to the rules in England allowed non essential shops to open, encouraging people back into town and city centres. Many eating establishments also reopened, but people were not allowed to sit inside to eat. Some have outdoor seating space which could be used, but others were providing take-away only.
In York a number of public spaces have had picnic tables installed to allow people to sit and eat their take-away food and drinks, and Exhibition Square is one of those spaces.
As you can see, there are also planters and other features as well. I particularly likes the wooden planter with the honeycomb designed screen, and with a bee design in it. The plants in this planter are types that are bee friendly, and some will climb up the screen. I'm all for encouraging bees, but I'm not sure how bees next to tables of people eating sugary drinks and cakes will work. I can forsee problems!
I do think that these additions in Exhibition Square improve it's appearance. Without them I find it a rather bleak open space, but the new features add colour and life to the space.
What an interesting shot. I love people watching and the lady at the top left of the picture doesn't look too happy. Hope they are tears of joy that she is able to catch up with friends again.
I remember that one boy eated icecream in which was bee and he needed doctor. A few years after that, one salesgirl was selling fruit when she was stung by bee. She needed doctor too, but she survived.
The rules for Covid have been relaxed here and things are opening up--too fast for me. Went to the grocery store this morning and I was one of the few wearing a mask. I hope the US isn't rushing things.
Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.
This square is normally relatively quiet. It forms the approach to the art gallery. I've always thought it needs something more to attract people, and at the moment the picnic tables are doing that.
to stay away from them.

Thank you all, I like the use being made of this square, but I'm really not sure about the planters if they attract bees!
